IDSP and IDOG Spring 2023 awardees

Lir-Wan Fan, PhD

Lir-Wan Fan, PhD, professor in the Division of Neonatology and Newborn Medicine, was awarded the Intradepartmental Discovery Support Program (IDSP) award for her project titled "Novel composites for the treatment of craniofacial defects in adolescents." Through this award, Dr. Fan will study the impact of hydrogels on the healing and resorption rates of cranial defects. 

 

Mary Ball Markow, MDMary Ball Markow, MD, pediatric emergency medicine fellow, was awarded the Intradepartmental Discovery Origination Grant (IDOG) for her project titled "Virtual Reality as an Adjuvant Therapy for Sickle Cell Vaso-Occlusive Crisis in the Pediatric Emergency Department." Through the grant, Dr. Markow will study whether virtual reality combined with standard medical care will reduce the experience of pain in patients with sickle cell disease who present to the emergency department.

 

The IDSP and IDOG are each awarded up to twice a year to faculty members, residents, and fellows within the Department of Pediatrics. The objective of both the IDSP and IDOG programs is to strengthen the discovery environment through the provision of flexible funds that enable residents, fellows, and faculty to accomplish small discovery projects that can be carried out in a short period of time with limited resources.
